Vale Academy
The Language of Kashmir Valley, now made accessible online, worldwide.
A language carries everything a people have ever thought, felt, and passed down. Kashmiri has done that for thousands of years, and right now it is at risk of being lost within a generation. Only ~52% of Kashmiri youth speak it fluently, and linguists warn the window to save it is closing. When a language disappears, it does not just take words with it. It takes the poetry, the humor, the particular way of seeing the world that no other language can replicate.
Vale Academy was built for anyone who wants to learn Kashmiri, whether you are trying to reconnect with your heritage, speak with family in a language that actually belongs to them, or simply give yourself the chance to know one of the world's most remarkable and endangered voices from the inside. Every person who learns Kashmiri becomes part of keeping it alive. We are here to help.

About us
I spent years as an English language teacher, yet Kashmiri was the one language I could never quite improve in. I was part of the generation of Kashmiris whose parents prioritized teaching us other languages instead of Kashmiri. In comparison, I noticed there was no real path into formal Kashmiri instruction, especially not one built for people living outside the valley. In July 2024, I built one. Vale Academy started as a small, private online academy with a simple goal: Kashmiri deserves the same structure, care, and digital resources as any other language.
Since then, it's grown into something our whole team has volunteered many hours to refine. We hire native-speaking tutors who use custom curriculum, our booking system handles time zones across continents, our tutors are paid for their time, and every student gets the kind of customer service that makes learning feel supported rather than transactional. At its heart, Vale Academy is our community investing in itself. We are also happy to welcome all those who are interested in learning.
If you've been meaning to start learning Kashmiri, or get back to it after years of putting it off, this is a good place to begin.

"Vale is a one of a kind organisation that is helping people connect with their roots. It has exceptional teachers of Kashmiri who are knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful and patient. I would recommend their classes to anyone who wants to learn Kashmiri or improve in Kashmiri."
— Mehak (Kashmir)
"Vale has been amazing at connecting me with tutors who truly work with my needs! They've been incredibly thoughtful about matching me with the right instructors, even working around different time zones to find tutors who are the perfect fit for my requirements. What I have liked the most is how flexible they've been as my learning needs have evolved. I've worked with several different tutors through Vale, and each one has been adaptable and creative in their approach. My tutors haven't stuck to textbook learning; they make lessons engaging by talking about my daily life, discussing music and media, and using real-world situations to help contextualize the language. This makes learning Kashmiri enjoyable."
— Aashna (Kashmir)
